Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Secure Back-to-Back Syed Modi International Badminton Titles
Lucknow, India - Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have successfully defended their title at the Syed Modi International badminton tournament, winning the women’s doubles crown on November 30, 2025. The Indian duo overcame a challenging final to claim their second consecutive victory at the event.
This win marks a critically important achievement for Indian badminton, as Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand become the first Indian doubles team to secure a BWF World Tour title in 2025. Their success comes after finishing as runners-up in the women’s doubles at the 2022 Syed Modi International, demonstrating consistent performance on the international stage. The victory underscores a growing strength in Indian doubles badminton, complementing recent singles successes by Lakshya Sen and Aysuh Shetty at the Australian and US Opens.
The final saw the Indian pair battling back from a first-game deficit. After falling behind,Jolly and gopichand rallied to lead 11-5 at the interval in the second game,ultimately forcing a decisive third game. Maintaining their momentum, they surged ahead to an 11-5 lead at the interval in the decider and closed out the match to secure the championship.
While the women’s doubles team celebrated success, Kidambi srikanth’s bid for a BWF title-his first since the 2017 French Open-ended in a narrow defeat. Srikanth lost a hard-fought men’s singles final to Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong China 16-21, 21-8, 22-20. Despite dominating the second game and saving a match point in the third, he was unable to overcome Gunawan, suffering his first loss in three career meetings against the Hong Kong China shuttler. Srikanth previously won the Syed Modi International title in 2016.
