CUPERTINO, CA – November 21, 2025 – Snapchat is introducing a new feature designed to foster public conversation around trending topics: Topic Chats. the launch marks a meaningful evolution for the platform, historically centered on private, one-to-one interaction.
the new feature allows snapchat users to participate in public chats focused on specific subjects, creators, or locations. Unlike customary Snapchat chats, these Topic Chats are open and visible, offering a space for broader discussion.
Snapchat is initially rolling out Topic Chats to users in the United States,Canada,and New zealand over the coming weeks.Users will discover these chats through several access points, including the chat shortcuts bar, search results, the Stories page, and alongside Spotlight videos.
When a topic gains significant traction, Snapchat will display a prominent yellow “Join the Chat” button, providing immediate access to the relevant discussion and related video content. The platform emphasizes the visual nature of these chats, grouping Snaps and conversations around a central theme for easy following.
Users can also see which of their friends have joined specific Topic Chats, facilitating connection around shared interests. Chats users actively engage with will be prioritized on their Topic Chat page for fast access.
Snapchat is prioritizing safety within these public spaces.Topic Chats will be actively moderated to ensure adherence to community guidelines. To protect user privacy, Snapchat display names – rather than usernames – will be visible alongside messages. Users can participate using text, emojis, Bitmoji stickers, and standard Snapchat stickers.
Users have the option to leave a Topic Chat discreetly, without notification to othre participants. Messages remain visible within the chat history unless individually deleted. A reporting mechanism is also in place,allowing users to flag content that violates community standards by pressing and holding the message.
