Bear Attack Injures Eleven, Including Children, in British Columbia
BELLA COOLA, BC – A bear attack on Thursday left eleven people injured in a rural area of British Columbia, Canada, approximately 700 kilometers northwest of Vancouver. The group included schoolchildren from the Acwsalcta independent school. Two victims are in critical condition,and two others are seriously injured,according to the Canadian Press.
One mother recounted her 10-year-old son’s harrowing experience, stating he was just centimeters from the bear, “he even felt its fur,” before managing to escape. A teacher accompanying the group intervened to protect the students, described by Veronica Schooner as “taking everything” for the children’s safety. The teacher was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
the Nuxalk Nation, which administers the territory, is searching for the “aggressive” bear and has urged residents to remain indoors and avoid the highway until the animal is captured.
Nuxalk Nation Chief Samuel Schooner stated, “all those involved are receiving medical support” and that “ensuring their safety” is the priority. Experts note that bears often exhibit increased aggression as winter approaches, driven by a need to accumulate fat reserves for hibernation.
