Woman Dies Following Liposculpture Surgery in Delicias, Chihuahua; inquiry Launched
Ciudad Delicias, Chihuahua – A 40-year-old woman, Leticia Ivonne, died september 27th after undergoing cosmetic liposculpture and lipectomy surgery at a private clinic in Ciudad Delicias, Chihuahua. The death was attributed too excessive blood and fluid loss, leading to hypovolemic shock and multiple organ failure, according to authorities.
The incident has sparked concerns about unregulated cosmetic procedures in the region, with the chihuahua Association of Plastic Surgeons alleging the surgery may have been performed by an individual without the proper specialty or license. Similar cases of alleged medical usurpation have been reported in Ciudad Juárez. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has opened an investigation into Ivonne’s death and is reportedly reviewing complaints related to irregular aesthetic surgical practices and the deaths of other women as recently as August.
ivonne entered the private clinic on September 24th and was transferred to the Regional Hospital of Delicias when complications arose. She later died at the hospital, and her body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service.
“Given this painful situation and as in others of this same character, we have been prudent and followed after the investigations that the State Prosecutor’s Office can develop and provide us, mainly not to hinder their inquiries, and respect the figure of the person who died,” stated Jorge Iván Borunda Herrera, president of the Chihuahua AC plastic surgeon school.
The investigation will determine if the facility where the procedure was performed met official and legal requirements for surgical interventions. The FGE has confirmed that ministerial police have interviewed staff at at least three medical centers in the state capital, including the University Central Hospital, regarding the complaints.
