Spotify Launches ‘Managed Accounts’ to Shield Parental Recommendations from Kids’ Listening Habits

Spotify is expanding its “Managed Accounts” feature to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, offering Premium Family plan subscribers⁣ a way to separate listening profiles for younger family members. The rollout follows a successful pilot ⁢program in New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina,⁢ and Colombia.

The feature addresses a common frustration for parents: the disruption ‍of⁤ personalized Spotify recommendations and annual “Wrapped” summaries caused by children’s music choices.⁣ managed Accounts create individual sub-accounts within a Premium Family plan,allowing ‍younger ‍listeners to enjoy personalized playlists,Daily Mixes,and Discover Weekly selections without impacting their parents’ listening experience.

“Managed accounts offer ‌additional value to plan managers by providing a ⁢music ⁣listening experience designed for younger listeners to create‍ playlists, ⁤receive Spotify’s personalized recommendations, and enjoy features that Spotify users know and love, like daylist and Discover Weekly,” Spotify stated. ”Each managed account‍ comes with‍ its own experience… a much-requested win for parents,who won’t have to worry about their wrapped results getting hijacked. And for young listeners, ⁢it ⁢means their favorites stay their own, too.”

Alongside personalized experiences, Managed⁢ Accounts include parental controls. These controls allow ⁣plan managers to:

*  Filter explicit content.
* Restrict playback of specific artists and songs.
* Hide video and Canvas features (short looping visuals accompanying songs).

Managed ⁢Accounts ⁤do not have ⁣access to interactive features like messaging.

To ⁣add a Managed Account, Premium Family plan users on iOS can ‍navigate to their profile icon ⁤> settings and privacy > Account > Premium family > Plan members > add a listener aged under 13 (or⁤ local market equivalent) > Add account. ⁤

The feature is exclusively available to Spotify⁤ Premium⁢ Family subscribers.
