Snapchat to Charge for “MemoriesStorage, Sparking User Backlash

LOS ⁢ANGELES, CA – Snapchat is ending its long-standing free storage for its “Memories” feature, introducing paid plans for‌ users exceeding ⁣a 5 gigabyte limit. The change, rolling out globally, marks⁣ a important shift for the popular messaging app and has already drawn criticism from its ‍user base.

Launched in 2016, “Memories” allowed Snapchat users to save ⁤snaps that would or else disappear after 24⁤ hours. Snap Inc. states the new fees are necessary to ⁢continue developing and improving the​ service, which currently holds over one trillion memories. ‍Users who surpass⁢ the ‍5GB ⁣cap will receive a year of⁣ temporary storage to manage their content‍ before potential deletion.
