Flu, COVID-19 and Influenza Cases Surge in Carinthia
Carinthia is experiencing a significant rise in flu infections, influenza, and COVID-19 cases, according to recent data from the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK). In the previous week, 13,382 reports of incapacity to work were filed due to these illnesses – a noticeable increase of 907 cases compared to the 40th calendar week.
While lower than the same period last year, the uptick indicates a developing trend. currently, flu-like infections are the most prevalent, with confirmed cases of influenza and coronavirus remaining limited.
“From a medical perspective, now is a good time to get vaccinated against influenza – in time before the flu wave starts,” stated Andreas Krauter, chief physician at the Austrian Health Insurance Fund. “A flu vaccination offers a high level of protection against severe courses and complications such as pneumonia – especially for people aged 60 and over, pregnant women and people with an increased risk of infection.”
The ÖGK recommends vaccination as a preventative measure, particularly for vulnerable populations.
