PCB Chief Naqvi Faces Criticism for ronaldo Post Amidst Asia Cup Tensions
Dubai, UAE – Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is under fire for a social media post featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, perceived as a provocative response to recent on-field incidents during the Asia Cup Super Four match between India and Pakistan. The post has intensified criticism following controversial gestures by Pakistani players aimed at Indian spectators.
Earlier in the match last Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium, Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf repeatedly made gestures directed towards the Indian crowd, including fighter-jet motions and displaying “6-0” wiht his hand – a reference to a disputed claim regarding the 2019 India-Pakistan aerial conflict. Opener Sahibzada Farhan also made a ‘gun-firing’ celebration after scoring a half-century against India.
Naqvi, who also serves as the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), further fueled the controversy with his Ronaldo post, drawing condemnation from fans and cricketing circles.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lodged an official complaint with match referee Andy Pycroft regarding Rauf and Farhan’s behavior, submitting video evidence of what they deem “indecent and provocative” actions. The BCCI believes the gestures were intentional.
India has already defeated Pakistan twice in the tournament and could face them again in the Asia Cup final if Pakistan wins its remaining Super Four game against Bangladesh on Thursday.
