AIMES-afrique and Dr. Serge Kodom Receive Special Social Impact Prize at MiRDa 2024
AIMES-Afrique, founded by Doctor Serge Michel Kodom, was awarded the Special Social Impact Prize by Miabôh magazine at the recent MiRDa (Miabôh RSE Days) event. The recognition celebrates two decades of dedicated work towards improving health, education, and enduring advancement across Africa. The NGO was specifically lauded for its important contributions to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) promotion and its support of social initiatives in Togo and throughout the continent.
Founded on January 19, 2005, in Lomé, the International Association of Physicians for the Promotion of Education and Health in Africa (AIMES-Afrique) operates under the mission of “bringing hospitals to poor populations.” Under Doctor Kodom’s leadership, the institution has mobilized hundreds of healthcare professionals to increase access to healthcare for underserved communities.
the impact of AIMES-Afrique’s work is demonstrably significant. In 2024 alone, the NGO conducted 2,596 free medical-surgical consultations in the Ogou prefecture and provided 1,807 medical treatments in the Lacs prefecture. These missions facilitated between 76 and 110 surgical interventions.
AIMES-Afrique’s innovative “mobile hospital” concept delivers specialized care – including gynecology, general surgery, ophthalmology, and ENT – directly to isolated rural areas. This model, combining medical expertise with a humanitarian approach, has been widely praised.
Beyond direct medical care, AIMES-Afrique focuses on preventative health through education. The organization establishes health clubs in schools, conducts community awareness campaigns, and promotes local mutual health insurance schemes, fostering lasting positive behavioral changes.
The Miabôh RSE Day,organized by Miabôh magazine, serves as a platform for discussion and training on ethical governance, sustainability, and social impact. Miabôh magazine, a leading voice in CSR in Togo, is directed by Ms. Essomandan Gnassingbé.
During the closing ceremony on October 18th, Ms. Gnassingbé stated that the prize “reflects the recognition of an organization which acts as close as possible to the populations and embodies the very values of CSR.” This award adds to AIMES-Afrique’s growing list of accolades at both national and international levels.
