Miami-Dade Shooting Follows ICAC Investigation, Leaves One Dead and Family in Disbelief
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – December 2, 2025 – A police operation conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit in Palmetto Estates resulted in a fatal shooting and the arrest of a second individual, sparking a tense standoff and accusations of a wrongful raid from the family involved. The incident occurred at a home located at 15513 SW 102nd Court.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz announced that agents, executing a search warrant stemming from a year-long investigation into the exchange and possession of child sexual abuse material, were confronted by an armed man when they announced their presence. The man died at the scene after agents opened fire, according to Sheriff Cordero-Stutz.
Following the shooting, a second subject was arrested in connection with the investigation, which reportedly involved alleged victims ranging “from babies to six years old.”
However, the official account is sharply contested by the family residing at the home. Zaida González, mother of one of the residents, arrived at the scene distraught after receiving a call from her son. “my son called me and said, ‘Run, mom. The SWAT came in. And they killed my stepson,'” she told Telemundo 51. gonzález claims she received no clarification for the raid and was only asked to pick up her three-year-old grandson.
Yudimi Rodríguez, a family member who lives at the residence with her children, husband, and mother, identified the deceased as Christian Barata, 25 years old. Her son, Christopher, 21, was taken into custody during the operation. In a tearful statement shared by Telemundo 51, Rodríguez stated, “They took me out of the house as if we were criminals and my son was left alone there bleeding. They killed him. They ended my son’s life. I will never get over this tragedy.”
Rodríguez vehemently denies the allegations against her family, asserting,”Everything they are saying is a lie. My children work, they don’t go out, they don’t drink, they don’t smoke, they don’t use drugs. Work and home, nothing more.”
Family members allege the agents may have raided the wrong home, a claim Sheriff Cordero-Stutz refuted. ”There is no evidence. We only made contact with a single house. The subject we have in custody is the individual who had the search warrant against him,” she told Telemundo 51.
The Florida Department of Law enforcement (FDLE) has assumed the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, standard procedure in such cases.
This incident highlights the sensitive nature of ICAC investigations and the potential for tragic outcomes during high-risk operations. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and the allegations against those involved.
