São Paulo, Brazil - Registration is now open for the 24th Concurso Brasileiro de Canto Maria Callas, a prestigious competition offering a significant platform for emerging opera singers.
The competition, named in honor of the legendary Maria Callas, aims to discover and promote extraordinary vocal talent across Brazil and Latin America. It provides a crucial stepping stone for singers seeking to launch or advance their careers on the international stage.The 2026 competition welcomes applications from Brazilian and Latin American opera singers between the ages of 18 and 40, regardless of their current location.
The initial selection process will be conducted remotely via video submissions, evaluated by committees from Cia Ópera São Paulo and Amigos da Cia Ópera São Paulo. Shortlisted candidates will be announced on December 19th. semifinals are scheduled for March 16th and 17th at Teatro Sérgio cardoso in São Paulo, culminating in a final round on March 19th in Jacareí. A panel of singers, directors, and music critics from both Brazil and abroad will comprise the in-person jury.
Singers of nationalities outside of Brazil and latin America are also eligible, provided they have maintained residency in Brazil for at least six months. The competition is under the direction of Paulo Esper.
