Kuala Lumpur – A section of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) experienced a significant leak following heavy rainfall on Friday, resulting in water pouring from the ceiling near the qatar Airways check-in counter. The affected area was promptly closed off by airport authorities.
Malaysia Airports stated the incident occurred around 4:15 PM local time and that containment, cleaning, and recovery efforts were initiated promptly, continuing with increased intensity as weather conditions improved. The area was cleared within approximately 90 minutes, and check-in counters K and L resumed normal operations after system evaluations.
According to Malaysia Airports,core airport functions remained unaffected,including passenger services,terminal movement,the aerotrain,and baggage handling systems. Technical checks are ongoing, with some support functions under close monitoring. The cause of the leak is currently under inquiry.
This incident adds to recent operational challenges at KLIA.The airportS aerotrain service has experienced multiple disruptions, including 19 between July 2 and September 30, as reported to parliament by Deputy Transport Minister Hasbi Habibollah on October 28. Additionally,KLIA Terminal 2 suffered a power outage in August due to circulating currents in underground cables.
