Veteran Journalist José Esteves Retires After 40+ Year Career
San Juan, Puerto Rico – Esteves Montesino, a highly decorated journalist with Telemundo Puerto Rico, is retiring after more than four decades covering pivotal events across the globe and on the island. His career has been marked by impactful reporting from conflict zones, public health crises, and important cultural moments.
Montesino’s work has earned him numerous accolades from the Overseas Press Club, the association of Journalists of Puerto rico (Asppro), and various civic and cultural organizations recognizing journalistic excellence in Puerto Rico. He reported from the front lines of the Gulf War in the Middle East, documented the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and covered the coup d’état in Venezuela, and also the plight of street children in Brazil and Colombia.
Beyond international assignments, Montesino provided extensive coverage of events closer to home, including the Pan American Games and preparations for Pope John Paul II’s visit to Cuba. He is currently featured on Telemundo Puerto Rico as part of their 2026 programming presentation,alongside presenter Ivonne Orsini.
