Davis County Confirms First Measles Case, Urges Vaccination
FARMINGTON, Utah – Davis County health officials have announced the countyS first confirmed case of measles. The infection, identified in an adult resident over the weekend, prompted an investigation into potential public exposure locations.
The Davis County Health Department has identified three locations where exposure may have occurred on November 26th:
* Kid Zone (Clearfield): 340 W.antelope Drive, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
* Treehouse Children’s Museum (Ogden): 347 22nd Street, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
* Walmart Supercenter (Layton): 745 W.Hill Field Road, from 6:20 p.m.to 7:20 p.m.
Health officials warn that measles can remain airborne for up to two hours after an infected individual has left a location, meaning anyone present at these sites during the specified times may have been exposed, even without direct contact.
Sarah Willardson, Director of the Communicable Disease and Epidemiology Division, emphasized the effectiveness of the MMR vaccine in preventing the illness. “Being fully vaccinated against measles does more than just protect the person who receives the vaccination; it also protects their family and friends, including children who may be too young to be vaccinated, and it helps limit the spread of disease in the community,” Willardson stated.
The department advises individuals who suspect they may have measles or have been exposed to contact their healthcare provider before seeking treatment to allow for precautions against further exposure.
While this marks the first measles case reported in Davis County, Utah has confirmed a total of 102 cases statewide as of Monday.
