Casino Fraud: Couple Arrested After Winning $1.2 Million with Hidden Camera
Sydney, Australia – A couple from Kazakhstan has been arrested in Sydney after allegedly defrauding a casino out of A$1.2 million (approximately HUF 250 million) using a sophisticated cheating scheme involving a hidden camera and covert interaction devices. The 36-year-old woman and her 44-year-old husband were apprehended Thursday after casino staff grew suspicious of their unusually consistent winnings.
The pair, who arrived in Sydney in October, reportedly used a miniature camera concealed within a Mickey Mouse T-shirt to transmit live footage of the card games to their cellphones. They then received betting instructions via hidden earphones, giving them an unfair advantage. This case highlights the increasing sophistication of casino fraud and the lengths criminals will go to exploit vulnerabilities in gaming environments, prompting casinos to continually bolster their security measures.
New South Wales Police confirmed the arrest and subsequent search of the couple, revealing the finding of magnetic sensors and a mirror alongside the camera equipment. These additional devices were likely used to aid in card counting or manipulation.
Police stated the couple visited the casino multiple times over several weeks, accumulating the ample A$1.2 million win, which ultimately triggered the casino’s security protocols. A search of their accommodation near the casino uncovered further “accessories” related to the fraud, along with expensive jewelry and 2,000 euros (approximately HUF 760,000).
The couple is now facing charges related to fraud and will appear in court at a later date.Authorities are continuing to investigate whether this was an isolated incident or part of a larger, coordinated operation.
