Thyssenkrupp Boosts Camshaft Production with Automated Mobile robots
Ilsenburg, Germany – thyssenkrupp’s camshaft production facility in Ilsenburg is now leveraging a fleet of four driverless transport vehicles (FTV) – the EKS 215a, supplied by Jungheinrich – to optimize material flow and enhance process reliability. The implementation marks a meaningful step towards full automation at the world’s largest camshaft manufacturing location.
The move addresses complex logistical demands within a mixed-operation habitat, ensuring maximum transshipment performance and component availability. This investment impacts not only Thyssenkrupp’s production efficiency but also sets a benchmark for automated logistics solutions within the automotive supply chain. The system’s ability to handle over 40 different load carriers with flexibility is crucial for the high-tech components manufactured at the site.
Jungheinrich’s EKS 215a Hochhub-FTV was selected for its versatility and compact design. self-supporting forks and high residual validity allow the robots to transport pallets both with and without a mid-block, accommodating a wide range of material handling needs. The holistic logistics solution integrates the FTVs with control technology, shelving systems, and a premium software package.
