HBO has confirmed a fourth season of its acclaimed anthology series, The White Lotus, with filming slated to begin in 2026. The renewal, announced in January 2025, came weeks before the season three finale aired and followed creator Mike White pitching ideas for a continuation of the darkly comedic drama, according to E! Online.
The series, known for its shifting locales and exploration of wealth and privilege, will move from Thailand – the setting for its third season – to France. Specifically, the Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez has been selected as the primary filming location, as reported by the New York Post. White has indicated a desire to move away from the visual motif of “crashing waves against rocks” that characterized the previous seasons, suggesting a departure from the beachside resort setting.
Production is expected to run from April to October 2026, with a potential premiere date in late 2026 or early 2027, according to Variety. This timeline reflects the extensive post-production perform required for the series.
The cast for season four is beginning to take shape. Confirmed cast members, announced by HBO on January 29, 2026, include Alexander Ludwig, known for his role in Vikings and The Hunger Games. AJ Michalka, who has appeared in The Goldbergs and iZombie; Helena Bonham Carter, famed for her portrayal of Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter films; Steve Coogan, recognized for his character Alan Partridge; Caleb Jonte Edwards, with credits in Stranger Things and The Americans; and Marissa Long, who has appeared in Better Call Saul, Grey’s Anatomy, and Law & Order. Ludwig and Michalka were the first two actors confirmed for roles in the upcoming season.
A significant change for the upcoming season is the departure of composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, who has created the musical score for all three previous seasons. According to E! Online, the split stems from creative differences with White, particularly regarding the theme song for season three and a disagreement over the use of the signature “ooh-loo-loo-loo” effect. Tapia de Veer announced his departure to the team several months ago, informing White directly at the finish of the process.
Viewers can currently watch the previous three seasons of The White Lotus on HBO and Max. Outside of the United States, the series is also available on streaming platforms such as Prime Video (with a Max add-on), Disney+ bundle, and Sling TV.
The series is created, written, and directed by Mike White, with White, David Bernad, and Mark Kamine serving as executive producers. The production company is Rip Cord Productions.
