Tesla‘s AI assistant, Grok, is reportedly set to expand its availability to older Tesla models equipped with the Intel Atom processor (MCU2) as early as next week. This move would bring the advanced AI capabilities to a significant portion of the existing Tesla fleet, many of which were manufactured before the transition to AMD processors (MCU3).
The potential integration of Grok into MCU2-equipped vehicles represents a significant progress for owners of these models. While the Intel processors are not as powerful as the newer AMD units, they have demonstrated their capability to support advanced features, such as the recently added weather radar functionality. This suggests that the hardware limitations of MCU2 may not be a barrier to implementing refined AI features like Grok.
Currently, Grok is a feature exclusive to the United States and has just begun its rollout. Initial availability is limited to a small percentage of Tesla owners, approximately 0.2%, with expectations of broader distribution in subsequent waves. This expansion to MCU2 vehicles offers a positive outlook for owners of these models, indicating that Tesla continues to support and enhance their in-car technology.
Just imagine a 2012 Model S getting Grok 4. 13 years later, it will still be the most intelligent vehicle out there in the world. This is going to be happening by latest next week. pic.twitter.com/3xVFGv9JU0
