Romanian Extortionist, Linked to Chiara Poggi Case, Arrested in Switzerland
Zurich, Switzerland – Flavius Savu, a Romanian national previously convicted of extorting a former rector of the Sanctuary of the Bozzola in Garlasco, has been arrested near Zurich, Swiss authorities confirmed wednesday. Savu’s arrest comes as Italian investigators re-examine potential connections between alleged events at the sanctuary and the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi.
Savu recently resurfaced in the inquiry, offering information suggesting a link between gatherings held at the Sanctuary of the Bozzola and Poggi’s death on August 13, 2007. While prosecutors have previously characterized this connection as “suggestive,” the Pavia Prosecutor’s Office may now revisit Savu’s statements as part of the ongoing investigation, which currently includes Andrea Semplio as a person of interest. The reopening of the case and Savu’s claims add a new layer of complexity to the long-running ”Giallo di Garlasco” - the term used in italy for high-profile, unsolved criminal cases.
Separately, forensic experts are resuming work in Milan on evidence recovered from the Poggi residence. The renewed analysis focuses on latent footprints found on garbage collected the morning of the murder. This investigation was prompted by the recent discovery of DNA belonging to both Poggi and her former boyfriend, Alberto Stasi – who was previously convicted in the case – on the same waste materials. The findings could provide crucial new insights into the events surrounding Poggi’s death.
