struck-off Lawyer Davina Reid Launches Another Attempt to Return to Practice
AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – Disbarred lawyer Davina Reid has filed a new application with the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal seeking restoration to the New Zealand legal roll, just months after her final appeal to the Supreme Court was rejected.
Reid was struck off as a lawyer in 2015 following a conviction for attempting to pervert the course of justice. She has been attempting to regain her practicing certificate since 2022,initiating a series of applications and appeals that have been consistently unsuccessful. Her initial application for restoration in April 2022 was turned down by the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal in March 2023. Subsequent appeals to the High Court and Court of Appeal were also dismissed, culminating in the Supreme Court’s denial of leave to appeal earlier this year.
Despite these setbacks, a notice appeared on the Law Society website in early October indicating Reid’s renewed application. The Law Society has confirmed it will oppose the bid.The deadline for objections or comments passed on October 8. The outcome of this latest application will determine whether Reid can once again practice law in New Zealand, a prospect the Law Society actively resists given her prior misconduct.
