china Launches “Super Vision” – Viewers Now Control the Camera at Live Sporting Events
Beijing, China – China Media Group (CMG) has unveiled “Super Vision,” a groundbreaking broadcasting system allowing viewers to control camera angles in real-time during live sports events. Debuted during the fifteenth National Games – often considered China’s internal Olympics - the technology offers a fully immersive 360-degree viewing experience.
“Super Vision” utilizes a domestically developed standard, GB/T 44115.2-2024 – Information technology. Virtual reality content representation. Part 2: Video, governing the representation, encoding, compression, and transmission of 3D immersive video data. The system employs 36 cameras strategically positioned around the playing field, coupled with deep learning-based processing software to reconstruct the scene in real-time. A rendering engine then generates the user-selected shot.
Unlike conventional multi-camera broadcasts with pre-defined angles, “Super Vision” grants viewers complete control, with a shot-change response time of just 0.1 seconds. A “bullet time” feature, reminiscent of the visual effects in The Matrix, provides slow-motion replays with simultaneous camera rotation.
Currently, “Super Vision” broadcasts are available for basketball and badminton – two of China’s most popular sports – through an app on CMG’s Yangshipin platform. The technology represents a notable advancement in sports broadcasting, offering an unprecedented level of viewer engagement and control.
