Strade Bianche to Reduce Distance adn Gravel Sectors for 2026

Organizers of Strade Bianche are making changes to the race for 2026, responding to criticism that the men’s race has become too difficult and dominated by a single rider, Tadej Pogačar.

here’s a breakdown of the changes:

* Men’s Race: The distance will be reduced from 215km to 201km. The number of gravel sectors will decrease from 16 to 14, totaling 64.1km of gravel.
* Women’s Race: The women’s race will also see a reduction, with two sectors trimmed, resulting in a 131km course with 33km of gravel.

These adjustments aim to bring back the unpredictability and wider field of contenders that characterized Strade Bianche before the difficulty was significantly increased in 2024. The longer, harder course played to Pogačar’s strengths, leading to his dominant wins in recent years. The changes represent an attempt to avoid turning the race into a “one-man show” and restore its competitive balance.
