Four people were killed and at least ten others injured in a mass shooting at a family gathering in Stockton, California, on Saturday night, authorities said.The suspect remains at large as of Sunday morning.
The shooting occured at a home where a large family gathering was taking place, according to Stockton Mayor christina Fugazi. The violence adds Stockton to a growing number of American communities experiencing gun violence in everyday locations-including schools, shopping centers, bars, and office buildings. So far this year, there have been at least 380 mass shootings in the United States, defined as incidents where at least four people are shot, excluding the attacker, according to the gun Violence Archive.
California Governor Gavin Newsom was informed of the shooting, his office stated. Newsom has offered the full support of the state of California to assist the Stockton community, Mayor Fugazi said in a statement posted to Facebook.
“Tonight, our city faces a heartbreaking and painful situation,” Fugazi wrote. “Please keep the victims, their loved ones and our first responders in your prayers.”
Details regarding the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.Authorities have not released information about the suspect.
