Toyota Unveils Electric SUV Duo at GIIAS 2025
Urban Cruiser EV and BZ4X Highlight Electrified Future
Toyota is capturing significant attention at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025 with the debut of two all-electric vehicles. Alongside the locally assembled BZ4X, the spotlight is firmly on the Urban Cruiser EV, an electric SUV that shares its platform with the Suzuki E-Vitara.
Urban Cruiser EV Takes Center Stage
The Urban Cruiser EV, first showcased globally at the Brussels Motor Show 2025, made a striking appearance on the main stage at Toyota’s GIIAS booth. While the BZ4X design remains familiar, the Urban Cruiser EV has generated considerable excitement among attendees.
Ernando Demily, Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor Japan, confirmed that the specifications for the Urban Cruiser EV displayed at GIIAS 2025 are consistent with global market versions. He added that Toyota continuously studies customer behavior to ensure local adaptation.

Detailed Specifications Revealed
The Urban Cruiser EV is equipped with a lithium iron-phosphate battery, touted for its durability and efficiency. Buyers can choose between two battery capacities: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 49 kWh model delivers 144 horsepower to the front wheels.
The 61 kWh battery option offers two configurations: a front-wheel-drive version producing 174 horsepower and an all-wheel-drive variant with 184 horsepower, thanks to an additional 48 kW motor on the rear axle. This translates to driving ranges of up to 300 km for the 49 kWh FWD, 400 km for the 61 kWh FWD, and 350 km for the 61 kWh AWD.

Interior and Technology Features
Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV boasts a minimalist cockpit with a low horizontal instrument panel and an elevated seating position, ensuring excellent driver visibility. The driver is presented with a 10.25-inch combimeter display and a central 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen.
The infotainment system supports seamless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Regarding potential local production, Bob Azam, Vice President of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), indicated that it’s still too early to discuss, pending assessment of consumer demand and economic viability in Indonesia.

The introduction of the Urban Cruiser EV signifies a growing trend in the Indonesian automotive market towards electrification, with electric vehicle sales in Indonesia increasing by 50% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).
