Sony Tests PlayStation 5 Home Screen Improvements

April 8, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Sony is testing enhancements to the PlayStation 5 home screen interface as part of ongoing updates to the console’s user experience.

This software development coincides with the expansion of Sony’s hardware ecosystem in India, where the company has launched the BRAVIA 5 series televisions. These new models, available in 55-inch (K-55XR55A), 65-inch (K-65XR55A), 75-inch (K-75XR55A) and 85-inch (K-85XR55A) sizes, are designed to integrate specifically with PlayStation 5 hardware.

Hardware Integration and Gaming Specifications

The BRAVIA 5 series utilizes 4K UHD LCD panels with Mini LED backlighting and local dimming zones. The displays are powered by the Cognitive Processor XR, which manages image and motion processing, and support a 120Hz refresh rate.

For PlayStation 5 users, the series incorporates several dedicated gaming features. These include Game Menu 2 with Auto HDR Tone Mapping, Auto Genre Picture Mode, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Connectivity is handled via four HDMI 2.1 ports, alongside Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3.

Beyond direct wired connections, Sony has integrated a native PS Remote Play app into BRAVIA TVs, allowing users to stream PS5 games to the television from different rooms or remote locations provided there is a high-speed internet connection.

Visual and Audio Synchronization

The BRAVIA 5 series includes a 40W audio system consisting of four 10W Acoustic Multi-Audio speakers, supporting Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Dolby Audio. Sony also promotes the use of Theatre Bars and optional speakers to enhance the immersive audio experience for gaming.

The synergy between the hardware and software is highlighted by upcoming content such as Ghost of Yōtei. The game, set in 1600s rural Japan and following a mercenary named Atsu, features specific visual modes designed for high-end displays. These include Kurosawa Mode, which emulates classic films with black and white visuals and film grain. Miike Mode, which increases mud and blood for a cinematic combat feel; and Watanabe Mode, featuring original lo-fi music.

The BRAVIA 5 series operates on Android TV with the Google TV interface and includes support for Studio Calibrated Mode, as well as specific calibration modes for Netflix, Prime Video, and Sony Pictures Core.
