London-based post-punk trio Shopping have announced their disbandment, releasing what they’ve billed as their final single, “White Noise,” accompanied by a new music video. The proclamation followed a post on Friday, August 15.
Formed in London,England in 2012,Shopping’s sound drew meaningful influence from foundational post-punk acts like Mo-dettes, Gang of Four, and delta 5. The band comprised guitarist Ray Aggs, bassist Billy Easter, and drummer Andrew Milk. All three members previously played together in the band Covergirl.
Shopping initially gained attention after their 2013 debut album, Consumer Complaints, was reissued by FatCat Records in 2015. Despite often stating their primary goal was to create danceable music rather than deliver political statements, the band became recognized for their exploration of queer alienation within a capitalist framework.
They followed up with the album Why Choose in 2015. In 2018, they released The Official Body, which featured a more expansive sound and propelled the band to international touring status. Pitchfork included both The Official Body and their 2020 release, All or Nothing, on their lists of the best rock albums of their respective years.
“This song and video are full of unbelievable memories, all made possible by the love and support of our fans,” shopping shared on Instagram.”You’ve taken us far and wide on so many adventures, and we’re truly thankful for every single moment. It’s bittersweet, but mostly we feel grateful for you, our community, and for all the joy and noise we’ve made together. See you tomorrow 🫶”
