The Shanghai Television Festival’s Magnolia Award TV Series category will be chaired by renowned Chinese actor Chen Baoguo.

Shanghai International film Festival Highlights

This year’s festival coincides with the 130th anniversary of world films and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema. The opening forum is themed “The Era and Dream Start a New Journey,” celebrating Chinese film achievements and inspiring future endeavors.

• Forums and Schools: The festival will host 10-12 Golden Goblet Film Forums and 2-4 Film Schools,covering topics from technological innovation to IP commercial conversion.
• international Collaboration: With anniversaries of diplomatic relations between China and the EU,Italy,and Thailand,the festival anticipates increased participation from European and Southeast Asian film companies.

• Asian Newcomer Unit Integration: The Asian Newcomer Unit award Ceremony will be part of the Golden Goblet Award Ceremony for the first time.

• Magnolia Forum: The TV Festival Magnolia Forum will host eight theme forums, inviting jury chairs to hold master classes.

The Shanghai International Film and Television Festival will integrate the film and television markets into an “international film and television market” at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.

• International Zone: A dedicated “international zone” will showcase cultural characteristics and industrial achievements from various countries.
• Industry Exchange: Market activities will focus on industry empowerment, including “Focus on International,” “Literature to Film and Television,” and “Film and Television +” series.

Chen Baoguo on Judging Principles

Chen Baoguo, chairman of the Magnolia Award TV Series jury, emphasized the importance of professionalism, fairness, and diversity in the selection process. I have a deep relationship with the Magnolia award. As one of the three recognized awards in the Chinese television industry, the Magnolia award has always enjoyed the reputation of the “Expert Award”. This year is the significant moment of the 30th anniversary of the Shanghai TV Festival. At this special node, I will work with all judges to uphold the following evaluation principles: adhere to professionalism, uphold fairness, encourage diversity, respect breakthroughs, inherit craftsmanship, and promote newcomers.

Chen Baoguo highlighted the festival’s role in connecting audiences and creators and promoting Chinese stories internationally. He outlined the selection criteria, emphasizing deep thought, artistic appeal, solid acting skills, and directorial control. The work must have deep thought and strong artistic appeal. at the performance level, actors need solid basic skills and unique interpretation of the role. In addition, the director’s control of the work structure, rhythm, style, and overall coordination of various technical departments are also crucial.
