Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested on misdemeanor Charge

Breaking: Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested Sunday on a misdemeanor charge of hit-and-run,according to police. The incident involved a man attempting to leave her presence, and Richardson allegedly threw headphones at him.

Richardson was booked at the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, and subsequently released on Monday. The man involved, who identified Richardson as his girlfriend, informed authorities that he did not wish to press charges.

Background and Career Context

Richardson, originally from Dallas, Texas, was scheduled to compete at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She participated in the first round of the women’s 100 meters on Thursday, as confirmed by USATF race records.

Her athletic achievements include earning her first Olympic gold medal in 2024 as part of Team USA’s 4×100-meter relay team at the Paris Olympics. She also secured a silver medal in the 100 meters at the same event.

Previously, at the 2020 Olympic trials, Richardson won the 100-meter race but faced a suspension for a positive marijuana test. At the time, she stated that her use of the substance followed the news of her biological mother’s death.
