Latvian Tennis Stars Hold steady in WTA rankings as Season Winds Down
Riga, Latvia – Latvia’s top two female tennis players, Alona Ostapenko and Daria Semenistaya, maintained their positions in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released this week, signaling continued success for Latvian tennis on the international stage. Ostapenko remains at number 23, while Semenistaya holds firm at 94th in the world.
The stability in the rankings comes as the regular WTA tour season concludes, though opportunities for movement remain with upcoming WTA 125 series tournaments. These events offer a chance for players to climb the leaderboard before the year’s end, perhaps impacting the top 100. For Latvian fans, maintaining a presence within the top 100 is crucial for seeding in future Grand Slam events and securing direct entry into premier tournaments.
beyond the leading duo, other Latvian players experienced shifts in their rankings. Anastasia Sevastova dropped to 209th, and Kamilla Bartone fell to 564th. Though, Adelina Lačinova climbed four spots to 626th, and Beatrice Zeltiņa saw a critically important jump of 40 positions, now ranked 639th. Diana marcinkeviča moved down five places to 800th, while to Elsa Thomas gained one spot to 926th. Sabine Rutlaukas and Margarita Ignatieva both saw declines, falling three and five places respectively, to 1253rd and 1474th.
The top of the WTA rankings remains unchanged, led by Belarusian Arina Sabalenka, followed by Poland’s Iga Świątek. The American contingent of Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova hold the third and fourth positions,with Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in fifth. Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Jasmine Paolini, Mirra Andreyeva, and Yekaterina Alexandrova round out the top ten.
In the WTA doubles rankings, Ostapenko concluded the season ranked seventh. Semenistaya remains at 153rd,while Sevastova dropped to 505th and Bartone fell to 556th. Thomas experienced a notable rise of 79 places to 583rd, and Marcinkeviča fell four positions to 659th. Eight additional Latvian players are ranked below 900th in doubles. The number one doubles player is Kateržina Siniaková of the Czech Republic.
