Seattle Seahawks Sign RB Robert Henry Jr. from Commanders
The Seattle Seahawks signed Robert Henry Jr. to their active roster directly from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Backfield Injuries Drive Seattle Roster Shift
Seattle pursued roster reinforcements after placing first-round selection Jadarian Price on the injured reserve list. Meanwhile, the return timeline for Zach Charbonnet remains uncertain. The franchise previously added veteran Joe Mixon to address backfield depth, and now turns to youth by acquiring Henry from the Washington practice squad.
College Production and Preseason Performance
Henry enters the Seattle backfield following a standout senior campaign at the University of Texas at San Antonio. As an undrafted free agent, he accumulated 1,045 rushing yards and nine touchdowns across 151 carries, averaging 6.9 yards per rushing attempt. Henry recorded five separate rushes of 70 yards or more during the 2025 season, which was three more than any other FBS player at that time. He also contributed 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the air, earning recognition as a first-team All-American Athletic Conference selection and a Doak Walker Award semifinalist. Following that collegiate success, Henry delivered a strong preseason showing for the Washington Commanders before this latest roster transition.
Evaluating the Roster Transition
The move provides the Seahawks with immediate depth behind Mixon while maintaining youth in a depleted running back room. While Price recovers on the injured reserve list and Charbonnet works toward a return, Henry shifts from Washington’s developmental unit straight into game-day consideration under the coaching staff in Seattle.
