Benfica‘s Andreas Schjelderup Receives Suspended Prison Sentence in Denmark for Sharing Explicit Video
COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Norwegian international footballer andreas Schjelderup, currently playing for Benfica, was sentenced Wednesday by a Copenhagen court to 14 days in prison, suspended, after admitting to sharing an explicit video involving minors.
The 21-year-old winger received a year of probation alongside the suspended sentence, with Danish media reporting a potential warning of deportation from Denmark. Schjelderup appeared in court and acknowledged sharing a 27-second video on Snapchat deemed explicit and featuring minors, according to Danish press reports.
Judge Mathias Eike delivered the sentence stating, ”You will receive a yellow card.”
The incident occurred two years ago while Schjelderup, then 19, played for Danish club Nordsjaelland, to which he is currently on loan from Benfica.Following the sentencing, the player’s lawyer indicated the defense is reviewing the decision to determine whether to file an appeal, noting Schjelderup promptly expressed regret, calling it “a bad joke,” and promptly deleted the video.
Schjelderup previously acknowledged the incident in an Instagram post on November 8, describing it as a “stupid mistake” and stating he removed the video after learning it was illegal.
The Norwegian Football Association has stated it considers the court’s sanction sufficient. Schjelderup recently played 20 minutes against Estonia last Thursday and was an unused substitute during Sunday’s match against Italy, which secured Norway’s direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
