Hazmat Spill Briefly disrupts Flights at San Diego International Airport
San Diego,CA – Flights at San Diego International Airport experienced temporary delays Friday afternoon following a hazmat spill,airport officials confirmed. The incident prompted a brief disruption to operations, but the airport has since returned to normal service.
Nicole Hall, spokesperson for San Diego International Airport, stated that the spill was successfully contained and cleaned up, allowing for the resumption of regular flight schedules by mid-afternoon.”Airport operations are back to normal,” Hall confirmed.
Initial reports from the Federal Aviation Governance (FAA) indicated potential delays of up to 50 minutes. Though, Hall clarified that the actual delays were shorter in duration. As of 3 p.m. Pacific Time, the FAA website reported significantly reduced delays.”Traffic is experiencing gate hold and taxi delays lasting 15 minutes or less,” the FAA stated. “Arrival traffic is experiencing airborne delays of 15 minutes or less.”
The disruption comes as travelers across the United States prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a traditionally busy period for air travel.widespread storms are already impacting travel plans in other regions.
According to ABC News, snow is forecast for parts of the Northeast, while rain and snow are expected to affect the Pacific Northwest, the Midwest – including Chicago and Detroit – and areas along the East Coast between Friday and Sunday.
