Samsung Shifts Focus to Galaxy S26 plus Amidst plummeting Galaxy S25 Edge Sales
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – Samsung has begun progress of the Galaxy S26 Plus (M1) following disappointing sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge, according to a report from The Elec. While Samsung plans to release the Galaxy S26 Pro (M1), Galaxy S26 Edge (M2), and galaxy S26 Ultra (M3), the timing of the S26 Plus’s addition to the lineup is recent. The Galaxy S25 Edge launched in May, but experienced a rapid decline in sales beginning in June.
Samsung likely initiated the galaxy S26 Plus’s development in August or September after assessing the S25 Edge’s performance, indicating a slump in demand even before Apple announced the iPhone 17 series. The base iPhone 17, featuring 256GB of storage, a 120Hz ProMotion display, and a $799 starting price, quickly gained traction, further diminishing momentum for the S25 Edge.
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi kuo reports the iPhone 17’s popularity in China has led to a 20 percent reduction in initial shipments for the Xiaomi 17.
Shipment data reveals Samsung planned to produce 300,000 units of the Galaxy S25 Edge from September to December, considerably less than the 500,000 units planned for the Galaxy S25 Plus. The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s planned production volume during the same period was 3.4 million units.
Currently, four OLED panels are in development for future devices.Samsung is working on improvements for the Galaxy S26 Edge, including a slightly larger battery and a slimmer design, but the company may replace the S26 edge with the S26 Plus. The S26 Plus could offer better value with features like an increased number of primary cameras and a larger battery.
Despite the Galaxy S25 Edge outperforming the iPhone Air in a battery drain test, analysts anticipate the iPhone 17 will achieve higher sales volumes.
