India Deploys S-400, BrahMos Missiles in Pakistan Conflict; Further Procurement Discussed
New Delhi – India utilized the S-400 air defense system and BrahMos missiles, jointly manufactured with Russia, during its conflict with Pakistan. according to Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov,the performance of these systems was exemplary.
Discussions are ongoing between india and Russia regarding the potential procurement of additional S-400 units, reinforcing their strategic partnership.
Strategic Deployment and performance
Following Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan, India faced a military operation launched by pakistan. India maintained that its actions on May 7 were non-escalatory and solely aimed at terrorist camps. Ambassador Alipov stated:
from what we know, India has clearly stated the goals and undertook actions after having identified the targets and the terrorists it promised to do.As far as we certainly know, during the operation, the S-400 system was used and the BrahMos missiles were engaged. Judging by the reports available, the performance of these weapons was exemplary.

The S-400 system is credited with intercepting Pakistani drones and missiles during the conflict.
Ongoing defense Cooperation
India and Russia have a long-standing and extensive history of cooperation in the defense sector. This collaboration includes:
- supply of S-400 air defense systems
- Licensed production of T-90 tanks and su-30 MKI fighter jets
- Supply of MiG-29 aircraft and kamov helicopters
- INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier (formerly Admiral Gorshkov)
- Production of Ak-203 rifles in India
- BrahMos missile production
Future Procurement and “Made in india” BrahMos
Sources suggest that India may soon procure additional S-400 air defense systems, considering its strategic planning and military preparedness. Alipov confirmed that discussions are ongoing:
Our discussion, on this particular topic, as on many others, is ongoing. It is a continuous one, but it would be incorrect for me and also premature to speak about the results.

Alipov also expressed satisfaction with the “Made in India” BrahMos missiles, a product of joint collaboration:
we have a joint venture, designing and producing these weapons. We are very satisfied with the results of this collaboration. It has very promising prospects. And, we wish to expand on that track, as on many others that we discussed are in the pipeline or are being implemented already.
