Polish Military Intercepts Drones After Reported Airspace Violations
Warsaw – Polish military aircraft were scrambled overnight after drones reportedly entered Polish airspace during a Russian attack targeting Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force had warned of numerous antagonistic drones over central and northeastern Ukraine late Tuesday night,with air defense artillery heard in Kyiv around midnight.Reports indicated some drones traversed airspace over western Ukraine en route to Lutsk before entering Polish territory. poland’s Deputy defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated, according to Reuters, “During today’s attack from the russian federation towards goal in Ukraine, our airspace was repeatedly offended by drones. An operation is now underway to identify and neutralize these goals. Weapons have been put into use, and forces are working to locate down drones.” He added that a military operation remained ongoing and urged residents to stay indoors.The incident prompted the closure of several polish airports, including Warsaw’s main airport, due to “unplanned military activity related to safeguarding the security of the kingdom,” according to the US Civil Aviation Authority.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the allegations. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was reportedly notified of the incident just before 04:30 Norwegian time. The events occurred on September 10, 2025.
