Russia-Ukraine War: Kyiv Hit by drone Strikes Amidst Peace Negotiations
Kyiv,Ukraine – A wave of drone strikes targeted residential areas on the outskirts of Kyiv Saturday, resulting in one confirmed fatality and seven injuries, including a child, according to Kyiv military management head Tymur Tkachenko. Air defenses were actively engaged during the attack, with reports of “enemy drones over the city.”
Rescuers recovered the body of a man in the sviatoshynskyi district, west of the city centre. In Brovary, east of Kyiv, two women were among those wounded as “missiles and drones” struck residential areas, regional officials reported. Fires broke out in a high-rise apartment building west of the city center and in a central district, though one blaze was quickly contained.
The attack follows a recent exchange of strikes earlier this week, which killed seven in Kyiv and three in Russia’s Rostov region.
These strikes occur as diplomatic efforts continue toward a potential peace agreement. President Vladimir Putin reiterated Thursday that Russia will only cease its offensive if Ukrainian troops withdraw from territory claimed by Moscow. He also confirmed the expected arrival of a US delegation, including special envoy Steve Witkoff, in Moscow next week to discuss a draft peace plan.
the draft plan, initially favoring Moscow’s demands, has undergone revisions following negotiations between Ukrainian and US negotiators in Geneva. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in a video address Thursday that upcoming meetings between Ukrainian and US delegations aim “to translate the points we secured in Geneva into a form that puts us on the path to peace and security guarantees.”
