Russia Mobilizes Reservists for ⁤Domestic Security, Despite Assurances They Won’t Fight ⁣in Ukraine

Moscow – Russia is ⁢mobilizing thousands of reservists, according to a⁢ recent order from Deputy⁤ Commander‌ of the⁤ General Staff’s Mobilization Directorate, Vladimir Cimlyanskij. While Russian ⁤officials state thes conscripted⁤ individuals-those who have previously served in the army ⁢and ⁢are now civilians-will not be ⁢deployed⁤ to Ukraine, ‌their role⁢ will be to protect strategically vital facilities⁤ within the ⁣russian‌ Federation.

Cimlyanskiy explained the reservists‍ will bolster security forces and safeguard areas increasingly ‌targeted by ‌Ukrainian drone attacks. However, ⁢self-reliant Russian media outlets point out that, under Russian law, these reservists coudl still be ‌sent to dangerous locations, including regions bordering Ukraine were fighting has occurred.

Despite assurances they won’t fight⁤ in ⁣ Ukraine, commanders have the authority to deploy them to Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian⁣ forces maintain a small territorial presence, as well as Belgorod and‍ bryansk, where⁣ cross-border raids have been ongoing.reports⁤ from captured Russian soldiers ‌indicate pressure‍ to sign‌ contracts for military service, potentially leading to deployment in Ukraine, sometimes enforced ⁤thru coercion and violence.

“Even guarding Russian military bases and critical infrastructure is by no means an automatically safe job,” reports ‌the Kyiv Post, noting⁤ Ukrainian forces conduct hundreds of attacks on these targets⁤ daily.
