Ukrainian forces are holding their ground in the western part of Chasiv Yar, according to the open-source map site Deep State, wich tracks front-line developments. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in a video address that Ukrainian troops in the Chasiv Yar area are defending their positions and have successfully halted all Russian attempts to advance in the Donetsk, luhansk (referred to as “smui” in the original text, likely a typo for Luhansk),and Kharkiv regions.
The most intense fighting is currently occurring near pokrovsk, located approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Chasiv Yar. Ukrainian forces are reportedly repelling Russian sabotage and reconnaissance units in this area.
Emil Kastehelmi, a military analyst with Finland-based Black Bird Group, indicated to Reuters that fighting is highly likely ongoing near Chasiv Yar. He suggested that if Ukraine maintains control of the western part of the town, Russia’s further progress in eastern Ukraine would be expected, albeit in stages.
Kastehelmi also commented that the situation is becoming more challenging for Ukraine, noting that the proximity of Russian drone units could impact logistical support in the region. Chasiv Yar, once a town with a population exceeding 12,000, is now described as being in ruins.
