Kyiv Under Attack: Russia Launches Massive Overnight Strike
Kyiv, Ukraine - Russia unleashed a importent aerial assault on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, late last night, resulting in widespread damage and at least 11 injuries, according to officials. the attack, which utilized both drones and missiles, targeted residential areas across the city, prompting urgent calls for residents to seek shelter.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the attack shortly before midnight Central European Time (CET) via his Telegram channel, stating, “Air defenses are intervening in Kyiv. The enemy has attacked the capital.” He later confirmed that five individuals,including a pregnant woman,were hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the strikes.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv military administration, detailed the scale of the assault, emphasizing the intentional targeting of civilian infrastructure. “The Russians are bombing residential buildings. There are a lot of damaged high-rise buildings all over Kyiv, practically in every district,” Tkachenko wrote on Telegram, urging citizens to prioritize their safety and remain in bomb shelters.
Preliminary assessments indicate that approximately 17 residential buildings suffered damage as a direct result of the Russian attack. Firefighters responded to blazes that erupted in eight of these buildings, and debris from the strikes also impacted at least one school. The extent of the damage to the school is currently being assessed.
Beyond the residential damage, critical infrastructure was also affected. A significant disruption to the heating supply was reported in Kyiv’s Desňan district, where an emergency situation on the heating network has left some buildings without warmth. mayor Klitschko confirmed that emergency services were dispatched to multiple districts across the city to address the unfolding crisis.
