Sept. 17 (UPI) — A New York judge has ordered Rudy giuliani, former mayor of New York City, to pay $1.36 million in unpaid legal fees to the law firm Davidoff hutcher & citron.
New York County Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron also ordered Giuliani to pay interest on the debt, accruing since October 2023. the fees stem from legal work performed by former partner Robert Costello between November 2019 and July 2023, covering 10 lawsuits and disciplinary proceedings related to Giuliani’s law license.
These cases included matters related to the January 6th committee investigation and the presidential election case in Fulton County, Georgia. According to the law firm, which filed suit against Giuliani in September 2023, he had paid only $214,000 of a nearly $1.6 million bill.
Giuliani claimed he never agreed to pay the firm for its services and did not receive invoices. Though, Judge Engoron ruled against him, citing a reference to an invoice number on checks Giuliani did issue to the firm.
Ted Goodman,a representative for Giuliani, criticized Engoron’s involvement in the case, pointing to the judge’s prior $454 million civil fraud judgment against Donald Trump.”The idea that Judge Arthur Engoron is permitted to sit on a case involving President Donald Trump’s good friend and former personal lawyer, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, flies in the face of justice and demonstrates the partisan political nature of this decision,” Goodman stated to The Hill.
