Putin Warns US Provision of Tomahawk Missiles to Ukraine Woudl Severely Damage Relations
MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin stated Sunday that supplying Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles would represent a critical deterioration in Russian-American relations, perhaps ending any positive developments between the two countries. “This leads to the destruction of our relationships, or at least to the end of the positive tendencies that have developed in these relationships,” Putin said in a video statement.
The warning comes as the united States weighs Ukraine’s request to purchase the missiles, capable of striking targets deep within Russia, including Moscow, according to US Vice President JD Vance.
The wall Street Journal reported last week that the US is considering providing Ukraine with intelligence on Russian energy infrastructure targets alongside potential missile delivery. reuters confirmed this report with two US officials.
However, according to an American official and three other sources, fulfilling Ukraine’s request may be challenging due to current Tomahawk missile stocks being allocated to the US Navy and other users.
The Tomahawk missiles have a range of 2500 kilometers, placing the Kremlin and all of european Russia within potential striking distance.
Putin reiterated thursday that the use of Tomahawk missiles would necessitate direct US military involvement, marking a significant escalation of the conflict. He also asserted that Russia would counter any attacks with its air defense systems, despite potential damage caused by the missiles.
