Indonesia Boosts Aviation Services for Commercial Jets
PT Dirgantara Indonesia Expands Maintenance to General Aviation Sector
State-owned PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is broadening its Aircraft Services (ACS) business to include general aviation. This strategic move shifts the company beyond military aircraft maintenance, now offering comprehensive services for commercial aircraft and private jets.
Expanding Reach in a Growing Market
The archipelago’s high demand for air transport presents a significant opportunity for PTDI. Currently, much of this lucrative aircraft maintenance is conducted abroad. This is a chance for Indonesia to compete in the global Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry.
Daud Zaini, Head of the Maintenance Division at PTDI’s Assembly and Modification Center, stated, “Indonesia’s geographical location as an archipelagic nation creates a very high demand for air transportation.”
He added, “However, unfortunately, commercial aircraft and private jet maintenance is still largely performed in neighboring countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and even Australia, where they benefit from comprehensive support through large, world-class MROs.”
PTDI aims to advance the national aerospace industry by providing these essential services domestically.
Comprehensive Maintenance Capabilities
PTDI’s ACS offerings encompass a broad spectrum of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. These include component repairs, structural modifications, and Life Extension Programs. Specialized services such as painting and Non-Destructive Test (NDT) inspections are also available.
These operations are based at PTDI’s Bandung hangar, which holds an Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) Certificate and Design Organization Approval (DOA) from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation. Operations adhere to an ISO 9001 and AS/EN 9110 Quality Management System (QMS).
New Livery Services for Private Jets
A key expansion includes new livery paint services for general aviation, specifically targeting private jets. Models like the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), Gulfstream G450/G550, and Embraer Legacy 600/650 are included. These services can be customized to meet specific customer needs.
PTDI has a proven track record with commercial aircraft painting. This includes comprehensive work for narrow-body aircraft, such as painting and cabin refurbishment for an Airbus A319 operated by Aero Airlines in Dili, Timor Leste. Additionally, a major maintenance check (C-Check) is currently underway for a Citilink Indonesia Airbus A320, a project in collaboration with GMF AeroAsia.
Strategic Collaboration Drives Growth
The partnership between PTDI and GMF AeroAsia is poised to optimize the national MRO industry. Collaboration will focus on enhancing technical skills, expanding workforce capacity, providing specialized training, and developing advanced work aids.
“This collaboration not only generates sustainable employment opportunities for Citilink’s fleet and other potential customers but also encourages an overall increase in PTDI’s capital,”

This initiative is part of PTDI’s larger vision to transform its Bandung facility into a unified MRO service hub. The center will cater to both military and commercial aircraft fleets. PTDI’s ACS has already served over 50 clients across three continents.
To bolster its global competitiveness, PTDI is actively seeking authorization from international aviation authorities. The company is committed to delivering high-quality maintenance while fostering a self-sufficient domestic MRO sector. “The quality of our services is a guarantee we will not compromise on. Consistency with standards and customer satisfaction are the main foundations of every ACS project at PTDI,”
Zaini concluded.
The global MRO market is projected to reach $120.9 billion by 2033, demonstrating significant growth potential (Precedence Research 2024).
