Ukrainians and their supporters gathered in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square on Sunday, February 22, 2026, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The event, titled “Four Years of Valor,” served as both a remembrance of those lost and a call for continued U.S. Support for Ukraine’s defense.
Yulia Brockdorf, president of DAWN, a nonprofit organization delivering medical supplies to Ukraine, displayed missile fragments alongside stuffed animals at an “Impact Booth,” intended to illustrate the ongoing realities of war for civilians. “We necessitate to keep attention on Ukraine in every sphere of our life,” Brockdorf said, emphasizing the importance of sustained public awareness and resisting complacency. DAWN aims to provide aid and maintain focus on the conflict within the United States.
Organizers at the Portland demonstration urged the federal government to increase both foreign aid and weaponry shipments to Ukraine. Attendees too voiced the need for continued advocacy to ensure the war’s effects are not forgotten. The gathering featured displays of Ukrainian flags and photographs of individuals killed during the conflict.
Valentina Pishchanskaya-Cayanan, vice president of DAWN, noted the significant changes the war has wrought. The demonstration took place as the conflict entered its fourth year, with hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians confirmed dead, according to organizers.
The event coincided with a broader effort to maintain international attention on Ukraine, as concerns grow regarding potential shifts in U.S. Policy. A separate gathering on March 1, 2025, near the Salmon Street Springs Fountain in Waterfront Park, also drew supporters, with the 80-foot-long Salmon Street Springs Dragon sculpture overlooking the demonstration.
KPTV reported on February 20, 2026, that Oregonians were preparing to gather in Pioneer Courthouse Square to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine. The demonstration in Portland follows similar expressions of support across the country, as the war continues to impact global politics and humanitarian efforts.
