Sydney police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 31-year-old Harley Johan, also known as the rapper “YC Ewzy,” in connection with the November 2022 murder of Nadal Acherkouk. An arrest warrant was issued for Johan in September, nearly a year after the shooting.
Acherkouk, who authorities state had connections to organised crime, was fatally shot by two masked individuals at a service station on Cleveland Street in Surry Hills. Police reports indicate Acherkouk had recently dined at a nearby Turkish restaurant prior to the ambush.
investigators believe johan is currently outside of Australia and are requesting international assistance in his apprehension. The nature of his alleged involvement in the shooting remains undisclosed.
Johan has released music online accompanied by music videos that depict violent scenarios. His moast recent video, for the song Reckless released in March, features a staged drive-by shooting involving two masked figures opening fire from a black BMW. The song’s description frames the visuals as representing ”the harsh realities of street life” and “the city’s darker side.”
His earlier music video, Drama, released in December 2021, also contains depictions of gun violence, including a drive-by shooting and a shootout in a parking garage. The video includes a disclaimer stating it is indeed a work of fiction intended for entertainment purposes and any resemblance to real events is coincidental. (warning: the video contains offensive language.)
Following the shooting of Acherkouk, the suspects fled the scene in a stolen Porsche, which was later found abandoned and set ablaze in Kensington. They then reportedly escaped in another stolen vehicle, a white Audi.
