PlayStation Distribution Shifts to Plaion in Czechia & Slovakia: What About Czech Localization?
PlayStation operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia will be taken over by Plaion, an Austrian company owned by Embracer Group, effective May 1, 2026. The change, reported by indian-tv.cz, marks a shift in how Sony’s PlayStation brand is managed in these two Central European markets.
Currently, Sony Europe B.V. Handles PlayStation’s activities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Plaion, which has previously published titles like Kingdom Approach: Deliverance 2 and Dead Island 2, will assume these responsibilities. According to Lukáš Hruška, who leads marketing efforts and will remain with the team in Prague, a portion of the existing team has been hired by Plaion to ensure continuity.
Hruška emphasized that the transition is not expected to disrupt service for consumers. “From the end customer’s point of view, nothing should change,” he stated, as reported by indian-tv.cz. Games will remain available, and local social media channels will continue to operate.
A key concern for gamers in the region is the future of game localization, particularly Czech subtitles. Hruška addressed this directly, stating, “Localization remains a key issue for us, and this change does not affect that.” This suggests that Sony’s recent practice of providing Czech language support for major PlayStation titles will continue under Plaion’s management. The upcoming release of Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games is anticipated to be localized for the Czech market, with pre-orders expected to coincide with localization announcements.
The shift mirrors a similar change that occurred in Poland last year, where Plaion likewise took over the PlayStation brand. In Poland, the transition also appeared seamless to consumers, with continued availability of localized content, such as Czech subtitles for the upcoming shooter Saros.
As of March 30, 2026, the PlayStation Store Slovenia is offering sales on a variety of titles, including EA SPORTS FC™ 26, NBA 2K26, and Grand Theft Auto V (PlayStation®5). Pre-orders are also available for upcoming games like Starfield and 007 First Light.
