PlayStation Skips Gamescom for Sixth Consecutive Year,Focusing on Internal Showcases
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has confirmed its absence from Gamescom 2025,marking the sixth consecutive year the gaming giant will not have a presence at the world’s largest gaming exhibition. This trend, which began in 2019, has led to speculation about PlayStation’s strategic shift towards its own content delivery platforms, such as the “State of Play” and “PlayStation Showcase” events. These internal showcases allow Sony to maintain complete control over messaging and release timing.
While PlayStation will not be offering hands-on opportunities for its first-party PlayStation 5 titles at Gamescom, the exhibition is still expected to feature third-party games with PlayStation versions. Advertisements and announcements related to PlayStation may also appear during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, ensuring that the platform remains visible to attendees and viewers.
Despite its absence from Gamescom, Sony has confirmed its participation in the Tokyo game Show in September, indicating a continued engagement with major industry events, albeit with a selective approach. The company stated that it currently has no plans to exhibit at Gamescom 2025 but looks forward to sharing exciting content and upcoming releases later in the year.
