Two Pennsylvania State Troopers Shot, Suspect Killed During Retail Theft Response
HERSHEY, pa. – Two Pennsylvania State Troopers were shot and wounded Friday while responding to a reported retail theft at a Hershey chocolate store, authorities said.The suspect involved in the shooting was later killed by police.
The incident unfolded at approximately 3:18 p.m.at the Hershey’s Chocolate World store in Derry Township, Dauphin County. Troopers responded to a call regarding a retail theft in progress and were promptly met with gunfire upon arrival,according to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris. Both troopers sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to area hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately released, but authorities stated they are expected to recover.
“This is a stark reminder of the dangers our troopers face every day while serving the citizens of Pennsylvania,” paris said during a press conference. “They put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities, and we are incredibly grateful for their bravery.”
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was pursued by troopers and ultimately died after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement.No other injuries were reported.
The Pennsylvania State Troopers Association (PSTA) expressed gratitude for the troopers’ courage and requested prayers for their recovery and for their families. “Each day, the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police go to work prepared to give their last full measure,” the PSTA posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We can never thank them enough for their amazing bravery.”
this shooting is the latest in a series of incidents targeting Pennsylvania law enforcement. Last month, three police officers in York County were killed in an ambush while responding to a domestic disturbance. In recent months, another York County officer was fatally shot at UPMC Memorial Hospital.
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident, and further details will be released as they become available.
