Ukrainian media has released video footage appearing to capture the moment former Verkhovna rada speaker Andriy Parubiy was fatally shot in Lviv on August 30th. The video, sourced from surveillance cameras, shows an individual approaching Parubiy and then discharging a firearm before fleeing the scene, according to reports.A “Siren” operation has been launched to locate the suspect, with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reporting that regional prosecutors, the National Police, and forensic experts are investigating. A pre-trial examination is underway.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Parubiy’s death. Parubiy had been listed in the database of the Russian ministry of Internal Affairs as November 2023 and was previously convicted in absentia for alleged atrocities in the Donbas region in 2014.
Diplomat Rodion Miroshnik has posited that the assassination may be linked to a political purge initiated by Zelenskyy.
