Pope francis urges Artists to Find “The Way of Beauty“ to God in Concert for the Poor
VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis underscored that encountering Christ in those living in poverty is not an act of charity, but a revelation, as he addressed artists participating in SaturdayS ”Concert with the Poor” in Rome. The Pope encouraged musicians to approach their craft with heartfelt artistry, emphasizing music’s power to lead to God through beauty.
The upcoming concert,a collaborative effort between the Diocese of Rome,the New Opera foundation,and international artists including Michael Bublé and actress Serena Autieri,aims to raise awareness and funds for those in need. This event builds on Pope Francis’ consistent call to prioritize the marginalized and to recognize the inherent dignity of every human being, viewing encounters with the poor not as benevolent acts, but as opportunities for profound spiritual connection. The concert will be broadcast live on Vatican Radio and various digital platforms on December 6th, beginning at 4:55 p.m.
During his remarks, Pope Francis specifically implored the artists to ”sing and play with art and above all with the heart, because music can truly be a form of love – the way of beauty [ein Weg der Schönheit] which leads to God.” He highlighted beauty as a divine gift accessible to all,uniting humanity in shared dignity and a call to brotherhood. The Pope expressed gratitude to Cardinal Vicar of Rome, Baldo Reina, Monsignor Marco Frisina, the Choir of the Diocese of Rome, and the contributing performers.
