Created in 2014, the drive is experiencing a boom in 2020

The global pandemic has profoundly changed consumption habits. And some companies have taken advantage of this by adapting their offer. Castorama, which is part of the British group Kingfisher and has its French head office in Templemars, is a perfect example. In a press release, the company is pleased to have completed more than a million orders thanks to the drive in 2020.

However, the drive was not really new at Castorama, which has been offering this device since 2014. Inspired by the food sector, the company was the first player in the DIY sector to set up the drive service: a service easy and quick removal in 2 hours. But this solution really “exploded as soon as the stores closed in March 2020.

“At the start of the health crisis, the drive was a device to collect orders when stores were closed, then it became a more secure way to shop in the context of a pandemic. For several weeks, we listened to our customers, made changes to the system according to new expectations, ”says Franck Moreno, Managing Director of Castorama France.

To support customers, who were sometimes discovering this service for the first time, Castorama employees “showed imagination and agility: signage to indicate withdrawal areas, geolocation and installation of awnings, all staff has mobilized at high speed to find the right operating mode and launch this new adventure. “

An alternative to the store

In 2021, the DIY giant intends to repeat the feat. “Today, we see that the drive has become a complementary alternative to the store: a simple and quick solution to access the entire offer,” says Franck Moreno.

With the arrival of fine weather, the brand even foresees “a boom in outdoor products: furniture, barbecues, plants and swimming pools … So many products for which the drive appears as a simple and suitable solution for the French who are embarking on home improvement work in order to take advantage of the summer period ”.

Castorama offers a total of 60,000 product references, ranging from gardening to small DIY, including large-scale improvement projects.
